When the UK Gambling Bill was changed at practically the last
minute before it was signed into legitimacy, a few components
of the bill were changed. One of the most drastic
changes was the clause that called for building eight super
casinos throughout England. That was changed to building
just one super casino. It may be just a rumor, but there
was a recent story in a respected British newspaper that
claimed Tony Blair may be going back against these changes and
changing the original clause even more! It is rumored
now that Blair will be making room for up to twelve casinos,
although it is unclear how many of those would be a super
casino.The UK
Department of Culture seemed to back this rumor by stating
that the future may indeed call for more super casinos than
was initially planned, and that it would be likely to see more
slot machines and casino games after the Gambling Bill finally
rests its case. Whether or not these so-called slot
machines would be primarily sanctioned to existing betting
parlors (and there are many betting parlors in the UK) or
would be scattered througout the smaller casinos remains to be
seen.
One jurisdiction in the UK that was very glad
to hear the news was Yarmouth. They were originally in the running for one
of the super casinos, but were cut out after the bill was altered. Now,
Yarmouth thinks it has an excellent chance to receive a casino due to its large
capacity to regenerate on an economical level. There are already talks to
reinvigorate an idea and plans to build a large super casino and hotel in
Yarmouth, which would ultimately create permanent jobs and more revenue for its
economy.
