If you are curious about
learning card counting while playing blackjack, you should
first be aware that casinos take great pains to prevent
gamblers from doing so. Besides looking out for tells
that card counters give through their "eye in the sky" video
system, as well as casino floor pit bosses, casinos actually
use technology to now minimize the effect of card counting.
One of these machines is called
a Continuous Shuffle Machine (or CSM for short) which lets the
dealer return spent cards to the shoe for automatic
reshuffling while play continues on without no interruption.
What this does to card counters, is that it prevents (or
lowers the odds of) them from knowing which cards are likely
to be dealt from the deck. The more a deck reaches its
end, the more a card counter knows as to what will be dealt.
This is likely the time when a very large bet will be placed,
which brings up another point. Try to stay away from
betting patterns (even in the online casino) for the casino
managers and back-end operations team are most definitely
looking for them when they examine your account and betting
history.
Another tactic casinos use to minimize the
effect of card counting is to increase the number of decks in the shoe. If
the casino is not using a CSM, they will likely have eight decks shuffled
together in the shoe, which means the card counter will definitely have their
work cut out for them in trying to keep up with that many cards.
The advantage that blackjack players have in
the online casino is that the cards are not shuffled nearly as often.
Whether it be casino software limitations or the casino wanting to provide
better payouts, the virtual dealer usually only shuffles the deck at the start
of each betting session. And although it will appear the dealer is
shuffling in the middle of a game, the world in player circles is that this is
done only to give the appearance the number genereator is being reprogrammed.
